About this tool

Built by a working Chartered Engineer and Member of the Association for Project Management, for the next generation of UK project professionals sitting the APM PMQ.

Why this exists

The APM PMQ is the UK's leading mid-career project management qualification — and preparing for it well is hard. Most candidates are already running real projects in their day job. They don't have time for fluff. They need realistic practice questions, honest marking, and a clear view of where their understanding is weak.

This tool is built around three principles:

  • Aligned to the source. Every question and every answer cites the relevant section of the APM Body of Knowledge 8th Edition.
  • Honest marking. Answers are graded against a model answer, with explicit feedback on what was covered and what was missed — no false confidence.
  • Built by a practitioner. The questions, the model answers, and the mark schemes reflect how project management is actually done on real UK projects — not just textbook theory.

Who built it

Steve Wayt

BSc (Hons) MEng MSc CEng MICE MIStructE MAPM
Managing Director, Forward Projects Ltd

Steve is a Chartered Civil Engineer (ICE, 1998), Chartered Structural Engineer (IStructE, 2000) and Member of the Association for Project Management (MAPM, 2005), with 33+ years in engineering, project management and business across the UK construction industry.

His project experience ranges from home extensions and building refurbishments through to multi-million-pound industrial facilities — including seismically-qualified nitrogen plants and nuclear decommissioning programmes. He founded Forward Projects in 2007 and has spent the years since blending traditional engineering expertise with modern, AI-powered delivery tools.

He's built this PMQ Practice Tool because he believes the candidates coming through behind him deserve preparation material that's as rigorous as the qualification itself.

Forward Projects Ltd

Chartered Engineers & Project Management Consultants
Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire

Forward Projects was founded in 2007 and serves clients across the UK construction industry, with selective international engagements. The practice's specialisms are risk management, opportunity optimisation, value management, quality assurance, programme planning and project controls.

The greatest value comes from early involvement — at the investment and inception phase, before design begins. That same principle drives this tool: invest in your understanding before exam day, and the rest follows.

What you can expect

Today the tool is a complete PMQ study platform: a guided learning journey through every BoK topic — with the real figures and a searchable glossary — and practice in all four PMQ question formats, with AI marking and progress tracking. It's already live and in use.

The AI study assistant, Free/Pro accounts and the full 90-mark timed mock exam — sat under real exam conditions with a single end-of-exam marking pass — are now live too. What remains is ongoing polish and accessibility work. The landing page shows where it's heading.

Everything you see here is built and maintained personally by Steve. If you spot something that doesn't work, or a question that doesn't ring true to the real exam, please tell us — there's a Feedback tab in the app, and we reply.

The study content is drawn from the APM Body of Knowledge 8th edition; see our Acknowledgements & sources for full attribution.
